OVERVIEW

JD Power, a prominent global marketing research firm, caters to clients across diverse industries such as banks, credit unions, OEMs, auto dealers, insurance companies, government agencies, and marketing/advertising firms. Specializing in providing valuable insights for success, JD Power conducts surveys on customer satisfaction, product quality, and buyer behavior within these sectors.

The Problem

JD Power's B2B clients need a way to navigate the various industries JD Power services so they can find content that supports their position as a global leader in consumer insights, advisory services and data & analytics.

KEY INSIGHTS

JD Power provided the agency I was working with research, which included a site analysis, user interviews, and competitive analysis. The following key insights became clear: the current design of jdpower.com's home page did not enable B2B visitors to quickly and easily find relevant content. Their international sites all had varying UI and design. The navigation and content structure had not evolved with JD Power's business growth model and did not reflect their B2B user needs. Additionally, the overall UX and UI were hindering the engagement of clients and future prospects.

Our agency then conducted extensive competitor research and determined Best in Class sites in similar industries. From there, we were able to draw conclusions about what worked, what didn't, and made notes on elements we wanted to include in our structure and design.

IDEATION & PROTOTYping

Organizing complex products offered into a easy to navigate system.

My main role in the project was to help clarify the content organization and then create a user interface that reflected that structure. The site needed to offer ease of use and navigation while maintaining a modern, fresh, and on-brand feel. We started by addressing the site map and reorganizing the disparate destinations, with a focus on three main navigations: the industries they served, the solutions they provided, and the insights they published.

With the approved site map as a guide, I developed low-fidelity screens and subsequently transformed them into prototypes. This allowed JD Power to interact with the new organization and provide valuable feedback.

Design directions

Following JD Power's brand refresh in 2016, in which I actively participated, I was assigned the task of creating different design directions for the prototypes I had developed, using their brand colors and direction. The range of directions spanned from conservative options closely aligned with their current site to more out-of-the-box designs that pushed the envelope for them. After careful consideration, we collectively agreed on a design direction that everyone was comfortable with.

High-Def SCREENS

Subsequently, I commenced work on the High Definition screens, building out over 40+ pages, including templates for specific pages like Industries and Solutions, each with multiple variations.

Conclusion

JD Power was thrilled with the work we accomplished and seamlessly implemented the new structure and design into their B2B site. While it has evolved slightly since being brought in-house, the framework and look and feel remain closely aligned with what we initially delivered.
